Run the operations behind a high-performing legal practice.

We are a well-established, mid-sized Auckland law firm with an excellent reputation across commercial, property, litigation, employment and private client law.

We are a firm that combines high professional standards with a genuinely supportive, down-to-earth and family-friendly culture. Our people are at the heart of our success, and we are looking for an experienced Practice Manager to help ensure the firm continues to operate effectively, support our people and deliver on our future plans.

This is a varied, hands-on role offering the opportunity to become an integral part of the firm’s management team and gain broad exposure to the operational, people and commercial aspects of running a successful legal practice.

The role

Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Management Committee, you will oversee the operational side of the firm, ensuring our systems, processes and people practices support the delivery of excellent client service.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Running the day-to-day operations of the firm, including office administration, facilities, suppliers, operational budgets and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting the effective use and development of our OneLaw practice management system, working with our IT providers and internal teams.
  • Implementing our people and culture initiatives, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance support, HR administration, employee engagement and wellbeing.
  • Supporting leaders and employees to maintain a positive, collaborative and high-performing workplace culture aligned with the firm’s values.
  • Managing and supporting our administration team, ensuring clear priorities, effective processes and ongoing development.
  • Assisting with ensuring the firm meets its regulatory obligations and continues to improve its practices.
  • Coordinating firm events, staff initiatives and activities that strengthen relationships across the firm.
  • Leading operational projects and process improvements that improve efficiency, effectiveness and the overall employee and client experience.
  • Supporting the implementation of key initiatives from the firm’s business plan.

About you

You will be an organised, practical and people-focused professional who enjoys creating structure, improving how things are done and helping others succeed.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Experience in practice management, operations management or a similar role within a professional services environment.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience supporting HR and people initiatives, with a genuine interest in building a positive workplace culture.
  • Confidence working with compliance responsibilities, including AML and Health & Safety, or the ability to quickly develop expertise in these areas.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with partners, lawyers, support staff and external providers.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Sound judgement, discretion and professionalism when dealing with confidential information.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the continued success of a respected Auckland law firm.

We offer:

  • A diverse and rewarding role where you can make a visible impact every day.
  • A friendly, down-to-earth team environment with genuine flexibility and family-friendly values.
  • The opportunity to work closely with partners and the management team across all aspects of firm operations.
  • A supportive and collaborative workplace where people are valued.
  • Exposure to the broader management and strategic direction of a successful professional services business.

If you are someone who enjoys bringing people together, improving the way a business operates and making a meaningful contribution to a successful professional services firm, we would love to hear from you.
