Franchising and Licensing

Our specialist Franchising and Licensing team advises franchisors and licensors across a range of industry sectors at all stages of their business.

At Jackson Russell, we believe great franchising advice goes beyond documents and transactions – it’s built on trusted relationships that create long-term value for both franchisors and their networks. We support franchisors and licensors with clear, practical legal advice to help them build, grow, manage and protect resilient franchise systems.

We work with clients across a wide range of industries – from new and emerging systems to well-established national and international brands. Our advice spans every stage: from designing and structuring the right model and documentation, to managing compliance, resolving disputes, supporting growth and planning for exit. We also assist with adapting international franchise systems for the New Zealand market.

We are not just legal advisers – we are part of the franchise community. Partner Darryl King leads our Franchising and Licensing team and is a long-standing contributor to the Franchise Association of New Zealand. As chair of the Association’s Advocacy and Legislation Committee and a former board member, Darryl plays a leading role in contributing to policy and legal reform affecting franchising in New Zealand.

If issues arise, our experienced litigation and dispute resolution team works closely with franchising clients to manage franchisee disputes, supplier conflicts and broader commercial issues – always focused on preserving brand value and network relationships.

Clients tell us they value our combination of specialist expertise, strong systems, and hands-on partner involvement – and the confidence that comes from working with advisers who understand franchising from the inside out. If you are looking for long-term legal partners who bring insight, clarity, and care to every stage of the franchising journey, would love to talk.
